Feb 28- 2024
The usual twin visit on 22nd February each year to celebrate the birthdays of two senior Ghanaian citizens was truncated this year after the passing away of Hon. Justice (Rtd.) Akilano Molade Akiwumi on 13th February, 2024, barely a week before his 97th birthday.
Notwithstanding, H.E Damptey Bediako Asare visited Justice Edward Torgbor at his home to wish him well and thanked him immensely for being a good representation of Ghana in Kenya. He also ceased the opportunity to present him with some gifts on his birthday.
H.E Asare was accompanied by Mr. William Abotsi, (Deputy High Commissioner), Mr. Kofi Amanin Oduro-Kwarten, (Consular Officer), Mrs. Karen Tettey, 1st Secretary/Administration among others.
Likewise, H.E and staff of the Mission called on the family of the late Justice Akiwuni to commiserate with them as well as attend a memorial service held on Wednesday, 21st February, 2024 at the St. Austin’s Catholic Church Parish in Nairobi.
Justice Akiwumi had an illustrious legal career and served with great distinction as a Judge in the High Court and Court of Appeal of Kenya till his retirement in 2001. He was the first President of the Common Markets for East and Southern Africa (COMESA) Court of Justice and was later appointed to the Supreme Court of Justice in Botswana. He would be fondly remembered by the Ghanaian Community in Kenya as a Ghanaian of great distinction.
