H.E. Damptey Bediako Asare, High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana to Kenya paid a courtesy call on H.E. Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary on Monday, 25th March 2024. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Nana Ama Kankam (Counsellor/Political and Economic) and Mr. Kofi Amanin Oduro-Kwarten (First Secretary/Consular and Welfare).
H.E. Damptey Asare formally congratulated H.E. Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi, following his appointment to the highly prominent position as Prime Cabinet Secretary of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya. The High Commissioner underscored the excellent and cordial relations Ghana and Kenya have enjoyed dating back to the days of Presidents Jomo Kenyatta and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. He added that these relations have evolved and further developed in recent times under the direction and leadership of our current leaders, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana and H.E. Dr. William Sameoi Ruto, President of Kenya.
He indicated that it was necessary for both countries to build on the momentum generated by our two leaders and hinted that Accra was looking forward to the State Visit by President Ruto. He highlighted some key activities that would be executed during the State Visit, and this includes the signing of an MOU to establish a Bi- National Commission between Ghana and Kenya, as well as holding a Business Forum.
H.E. Damptey Asare mentioned that there was so much that could be done to raise our bilateral relations to a new level, especially in the sphere of improving our economic relations to create jobs for our youth and improve the living standards of our citizens. He stated that it was in the collective interest of the Continent to ensure a successful implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in view of its enormous impact on the economies of individual African countries. He added that Ghana and Kenya were in the position to drive this agenda and serve as inspiration and role models for other countries to emulate.
On his part, H.E. Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya expressed with joy for being able to host the High Commissioner. He congratulated Ghana for successfully hosting the recent meeting on Repatriation and Racial Healings Summit in Ghana.
H.E. Mudavadi recalled the strong ties and excellent relations between Ghana and Kenya. He also took the opportunity to express in-depth appreciation and gratitude to Ghana and especially to the former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, for his contribution towards mediating the 2007/2008 post-election violence experienced in Kenya.
In conclusion both officials stated they were looking forward to the State Visit and promised to continue to work together to elevate the Ghana-Kenya relations to a new pedestal.
